Drug testing for employment is becoming part of the hiring process nowadays. Although there are different issues surrounding method, most companies still include drug testing as part of pre-employment requirements because of various reason such as making sure about the safety of the company, the person’s performance and behaviour, and improving establishment image and productivity rate.

What is a Urine Drug Test?
A urine drug test uses urine in order to detect the presence of illegal drugs as well as existence of prescribed medications in the system. UDS or urine drug test usually tests drugs such as amphetamines, marijuana, opioids or narcotics, cocaine, benzodiazepines and even alcohol.

Urine Drug Test: How is it being done?
A urine drug test should be done in a clean location and collection of the specimen should be done carefully without being dirtied in order for results not to be manipulated. You will use drug testing kits for this type of test.
Before the undergoing the process, you will be asked to remove all your garments and to wear a hospital gown. After that, you will be placed in a room with no access of their personal things and water to prevent alteration of the urine by diluting water.
The test is conducted by following steps:
- You will be given a clean container and you need to wash your hands with soap and water and then dry them with a towel.
- Males need to slowly pull back the foreskin, if they have one before cleaning head of the penis with a wet cloth or a disposable towel. While females need to wash the area between the lips of their vagina.
- When you urinate, do not collect urine early in the fall to clean the urethra of dirty elements and will make the results more accurate. Collect about 1 or 2 ounces of your urine in order for it to be enough for the test.
- Give the container to the health care worker and then wash your hands with soap and water. After this, the sample will be taken to a laboratory for evaluation.

You can also test for illegal drugs when you are at home, and if you are not comfortable doing it in the office or in any other place. You just have to make sure that the way you collect the specimen is clean and drive to the laboratory before the hours of validity expires. It is advisable that once you’re done with the collection process at home, you immediately go to the nearest laboratory to have it examined. When it comes to home drug testing for employers, it’s better to use kits that provide laboratory results instead of instant results to show the employer that you did not, in any way, manipulate the outcome.
Urine drug testing is as easy and as simple as that. There will be no drugs in the results if you did not take illegal drugs or if you are not prescribed with any medicine that is why you will have to tell the doctor about any medications you have.
