Researchers of an international group have carried out a trial that shows that the reduction of the HIV level is possible by the consumption of the herpes medication.
They found that contrary to the previous studies, the herpes drug valacyclovir helps in the reduction of the HIV-1 among patients who did not even suffer from herpes.
HIV-1 is a predominant strain of the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) which is the cause of the disease AIDS. When people are referring to HIV, it generally means that they are referring to HIV-1.
It was thought all this time that for the herpes medication to be effective against the HIV, the HSV-2 or Herpes Simplex Virus 2needed to be present in the body. However this study has proven otherwise.
The study ran two trials between 2009 and the year 2012 with one of the trials being carried out in the US, with the other one being in Peru.
