The doctors are very important for the best medical treatment in a country and an active doctor can only ensure a perfect treatment of a patient.
In November 2000, Helen Haskell took her 15 years old boy to a teaching university for routine electric treatment but sadly he died after 4 days and the cause for that as described by Helen was that “failure to recognize and act upon declines in patients”.
The boy was treated by a physician who was not sleeping for about 30 hours and gets many surgeries in a week and according to Helen “I know that fatigue had to have played a role in my son’s death” and she further said “In that time of crisis the last thing we needed was an exhausted resident as the only lifeline for our dying son”
The occurrence for such incidents can be expected again for some other time if proper consideration is not provided on the working hours of doctors. Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), which controls medical residency training programs have received many applications from the activists to limit the amount of work of residents. The start of such campaigns will prove to be very effective for the future medical treatments and for the doctors and patients.
