Tips to Deal with Oily Skin

Oily Skin can be a challenge to manage. It requires more attention in choosing products as well,  so that they are beneficial and suitable according to the skin tone.

Here are some tips to handle oily skin:

  • Oily skin can be caused by not washing properly. Wash your face twice a day, morning and night, to keep skin healthy. Use an acne wash both times to help rid your face of those blemishes.
  • Choose a gentle face soap that cleans your face well without drying out your skin. Do not use a moisturizing soap that adds oils or moisturizers to your face.

  • Read product packaging and ingredients list and choose only water-based, non-comedogenic cosmetics if you are prone to oily skin.
  • Do not use cold creams or lotions for makeup removal if you have oily skin. These products are designed to moisturize dry skin and may leave a greasy film on the skin, contributing to clogged pores, oil buildup and acne.
  • Avoid oily, greasy foods and heated fats which aggravate oily skin conditions. Replace unhealthy fats in your diet with healthy fats found in foods like nuts, seeds, avocados, and lean poultry and other meats.
  • The connection between stress and acne has been noticed by people for many years. Research has found that the body produces higher levels of androgens during times of high stress. This in turn stimulates the sebaceous glands, casing them to increase oil production.
  • Use a deep cleaning facial mask as needed to remove excess oil from skin.
  • Treat the acne with over-the-counter acne medication if your attempts to control or prevent outbreaks are not successful.
  • Drink plenty of water to flush and cleanse your body and skin.
  • Try sleeping with a clean hand towel on your pillow every night. It helps to absorb any oils your face may produce while you sleep. Plus bacteria can build up on your pillow case so a clean towel keeps your face cleaner.
