Statin Drug Can Cause Muscle Problems: FDA

The potentially high doses of even some very useful drugs mostly have been seen to carry some negative aspects and in the last week the food and drug administration in New York has said that the highest available dose of the cholesterol drug Zocor can bring high risks of muscle damage and also severe and potentially lethal kidney damage,

which is quite alarming because this drug is very much suggested by many physicians of the world.

While talking more about the affects the agency has also reported that statin drugs like Zocor are much known to cause muscle problems in some patients and the risks is more severe when the patients takes 80 milligram doses of Zocor.

One of the risks which are told to have been caused includes rhabdomyolysis which is a form of muscle damage that can eventually lead to kidney damage or failure and thus death of the patient. Another name used for such drug is simvastatin and both of these are Merck and Co. Merck’s cholesterol drug Vytorin and Abbott Laboratories’ and the sale rate is also quite well because of the benefits of these drugs.
